Back in Shanghai
June 8, 2008 – 10:45 amSo I have been back in Shanghai for a bit over a week now. I had spent three weeks visiting family and friends in the States. It was a good trip, but was rather full. I was in seven different states during that time, two of them only for one day. I think I put around 2300 miles on the two rental cars I had. (Total, not each.) I’m very glad I don’t normally have to pay for gas here.
Now that I’m back I get to be busy with work and SOAR again. Three days after I got back, a part of our simulation system at work broke, rendering the entire simulation system (what we call a “rig”) unusable. As testing was happening full throttle (this was a Saturday, by the way), this was a very big issue. We were able to borrow enough equipment and with some effort was able to get back up and running Tuesday night. My co-worker was happy this happened after I got back, not while I was gone. There will be plenty of things going on this summer at SOAR, including working on the structure of the SCF youth ministry in preparation for next school year. And I will continue to be speaking on a regular basis. That’s the plan for now, at least.
For me, it is good to be back. I enjoyed my trip, but am realizing more that Shanghai is my home, at least for now. Despite all the troubles and stress, I’d rather be here than anywhere else.
